"Sometimes no story is a story" - reporter old saw.
In the case of Tiger Woods, this epithet does not apply. After winning the US Open's full 18 -hole round Monday, then sudden death to win, then releasing that he's had a torn ACL since the Memorial might be a story. The PGA tour's spit-take could be heard from Mars.
Albeit, PGA officials' GPA scores are reportedly lower than a turtle's belly. But successful sports television is about drama. So don't stop digging up Native American grounds for new courses just yet.
Time will tell part: If he's not a robot (he went to Stanford), his season's over, PGA ratings have been shorted by Vegas sports books, and so forth. But it's his knee, therefore, "Tiger Can't Pass Jack." "Tiger Retires," "Arena Lacrosse: Fighting Has Nothing To Do With Skyrocketing Ratings."
Sometimes a story gets magnetic. And, the Stanford crack was a joke. Stanford's nice.

The Journey of Harmony
Courtesy of Wikipedia: (the torch) Commemorates the theft of fire from the Greek god Zeus by Prometheus, its origins lie in ancient Greece, when a fire was kept burning throughout the celebration of the ancient Olympics.
I heard someone who reports on the IOC that _everyone_ knew this was going to be a fiasco when Beijing got the Olympics in 2001. What are you going to focus your protests on? Not buying products made in China? Embargoing Chinese freighters? Or giving the sad torch bearers physical grief?
The IOC is like the UN. It's not a country. It's worldwide headquarters are in Norway, and every country has its own IOC -- like the Chinese IOC who paid a special visit to SF Mayor Gavin Newsome the other day for some reason.
The International Olympic Committee is a giant organization. But surely, somewhere in there heard in 2001 the cries of "Oh god. This is a terrible, terrible idea."
I should mention that I'm a total softy for the Olympics. But the Torch being put out repeatedly by protesters, and then sent to San Fancisco at 3AM somehow dampens my Olympic spirit for some reason.
But I'm sure it'll all work out. Even though we're just talking about the torch part of the Olympics. And they've only got sixteen cities to go.
Oh yeah, those guys inside the phalanx of cops in blue and white jumpsuits in SF last week? They were Chinese paramilitary guards.
It's not rain. It's Prometheus' tears.
Who has been the most surprising player so far in the 2007 NFL season?
Amazingly, I am not paying attention to the NFL this year at all. From the lack of any off-season from media coverage to the horrors of the NFL Players Union putting up with antique technology for physical protection to the necessity of a degree in tort law to follow a game, I'll take English Premiership Football.

Do professional athletes make too much money, or do they deserve every penny? Why?
As a former AP stringer, I'd say it depends. For instance, the average NFL player plays four years, and if you've seen the footage of Earl Campbell trying to walk it's a sad scene. In Baseball, the owners have an exemption from the Feds to open their books.
A better question is do owners make too much money?
